My favorite DC character is Batman. Hands down. The Dark Knight is mysterious, brooding, right in my milieu. When Batman: Arkham Asylum came out, I thought it was one of the best action games I’d ever played. I bought its two sequels Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Origins without hesitation.
But with each subsequent release, I started to become restless. While there were interesting elements in each game—new features, new weapons, new villains—I ultimately began to feel each iteration was, by and large, a regurgitation of its predecessor. But when IGN reported that game developer Rocksteady was making its latest installment, Batman: Arkham Knight, Rated M for mature (a first for the series), I found myself being a bit hopeful. It at least means the series is going to go to some really dark places, at least thematically. In my book, that’s a plus. Now if they can just revolutionize the gameplay, I’ll be sold.
Today, a new trailer was released for Arkham Knight, and by all indications, it looks great. The gameplay seems pretty similar to the previous versions, but I’m hoping the mechanics will be changed up enough to make this latest installment worth the money.
Take a look at the trailer below and let me know what you think. Is this the Batman you need? Is it the Batman you deserve?
